Escape AI is an escape room game within the Immersive Gamebox franchise. There are several locations throughout London, we played at the Shoreditch venue this time.
A brilliant inventor has vanished, your team is teamed up with Rewinder technology to travel back in time to uncover the truth of what happened to him. As you explore, the malevolent AI he created traps you in its digital web. Can you outsmart the AI, solve the mystery of the disappearance, and make it out in time?
The game takes place within Gamebox technology, which is a box with three projection screen walls that allow players to interact with the tech. Every player also wears a visor that tracks their movements within the playing space. The technology can unfortunately be a little janky at times, not fully tracking movements or wall touches and occasionally leading to a little bit of frustration.
On the plus side, the visuals look a lot like a VR experience, just without the headset, negating the risk for dizziness or other struggles some people experience with VR headsets. Graphics are reasonably smooth, though a little fuzzy and blurry at times.
The story itself is linear with puzzles that require legwork more than puzzle solving skills. It’s not necessarily a big challenge to get through, rather it’s a fun narrative to be explored and played within. This one’s definitely suitable for beginners and younger players and requires patience and linear thinking. A bit of a different experience that doesn’t have any physical props in it but is still quite fun to play.
