The Swan, The Werewolf, And Gianpiero, currently running at the Etcetera Theatre as part of the Camden Fringe, is an absurd comedy structured around dance performances. You can catch one more performance tonight!
Roxana and Mateo, dance and life partners, have a very public row and break up on stage during a tango performance. Eccentric director Gianpiero witnesses the dramatic display and decides to construct his next theatrical masterpiece around the two dancers. He jumps into action to manipulate them to create an unforgettable show.
This piece revolves around Argentine Tango and incorporates quite a few dance interludes within the story. The story itself is quite unhinged, though thoroughly entertaining. Especially Gianpiero’s character carries the show with his mad ideas and larger than life personality.
Acting is a little wobbly at times and would benefit from more rehearsal time, while the dances do seem well rehearsed though the choreographies are a little lacklustre. There’s definitely room for improvement and development here.
The narrative itself feels a little cut short and convoluted, though this may be due to the selection of characters. Some don’t serve much purpose in the story itself, while others are only mentioned and not seen. The show can definitely be developed a little more to present a more cohesive storyline. Though it is already a very entertaining show in its current iteration!
