The End is a theatrical escape room that started as an immersive experience. Located in Colab Tower near London Bridge, it has developed quite a bit since its early stages.
The world outside is lost, a deadly virus is spreading, the only hope lies in a bunker deep underground. Will your time be able to uncover the secret of The Darkness and save humanity in time?
This escape room experience is run with one live actor taking on several roles within the bunker, which is a medical research facility that is mysteriously abandoned. Players must access several security areas and uncover what happened before contact with the team of scientists was cut off. The experience is split into several high security areas and is fully wheelchair accessible, though some of the doors are a little narrow. Players work their way through in a linear fashion that has a variety of puzzles, some very innovative and technically advanced, others just plain padlocks. It’s a bit of a mixed bag in this regard as the storyline is a little muddled and difficult to fully discern, while the puzzles are almost too simple and require more legwork than brain work.
Still, there’s a good variety and quite a few surprises along the way, and the actor led interactions absolutely make this escape room stand out. It’s fun and theatrical rather than relying solely on puzzles to be solved.
Occasionally it’s a little too dark to properly see the puzzles players have to work on, and now and then swift running around the small space is required. The immersion is good throughout, with room for improvement through perhaps losing the padlocks and adding a few more narrative driven puzzles instead.
A solidly fun game that gets lots in its own gimmick at times, but has great entertainment value!
