This Year I Am Going To Die is a dark comedy by Turtle Hellion Productions, having run an Edinburgh Fringe preview at the Hen & Chickens Theatre Bar on 23 July 2026. Written and performed by Jonas Feind, the show dramatises the story of Jojo, who has convinced himself that he is going to die soon. Exploring the effects of anxiety and depression, he hosts his own funeral to examine approaches to better his mental health and enjoy life more.
This snappy one-hander is presented directed at the audience, as if we were the guests at Jojo’s funeral, bringing a fresh and casual atmosphere to the show. There’s a lot of humour wrapped into talk about mental health struggles, keeping things light despite delving into quite dark sides of the psyche. Playing on anxious charm and very relatable insights, Jojo peels back the layers of his recent struggles to uncover doubt and fears all too familiar to most of us.
There’s the occasional wobble, but as the show continues, presentation becomes more solid and assured. With a little more rehearsing, this will become a fantastic little show about finding joy in life even when it feels hopeless and bleak. A great production that has a lot of potential to grow!
