Escape London has many locations across the Greater London area, with different rooms scattered throughout them. The Hammersmith location, which also houses an axe throwing venue, boasts two rooms, Things Are Strange and Young Wednesday. I tackled both of them on a rainy Saturday with a team of 5 players. This review will be spoiler-free and only touch on the main themes and functions within the rooms.
Our host Nathan was absolutely fantastic, making our experience extremely enjoyable and just overall being a ray of sunshine and humour. A great GM definitely makes a difference to the escape experience!
The Young Wednesday room is of course heavily inspired by the Netflix show, presenting a narrative in which we are thrust into Nevermore Academy to try to stop the Raven Society from carrying out their nefarious schemes. The room is beautifully decorated with many automated elements that really delight players. There are some very clever puzzles and mechanisms hidden within the room.
Storyline presentation is done very well, giving players fantastic guidance throughout, if they choose to pay attention. Another delightfully decorated room that will make fan hearts beat faster, and a bit of a challenge in teamwork and thorough reading comprehension.
We had a lot of fun with this one, and made it out in 40 minutes and 38 seconds.
