Every second Thursday of the month at The Others (Stoke Newington), No Such Theatre hosts The Scrap, a space for writers, actors, directors, ensembles and musicians to collaborate, experiment, and showcase new works-in-progress. The evening begins with a 25 minute set from a band or musician, before moving on to short excerpts of new scripts workshopped on the day of the event, and finally closing with a 25-30 work-in-progress performance of an ensemble or theatre company who have already developed the work but have not yet run a full production. The Scrap is produced by Ben Peterson and James Christensen of NST, alongside Emily Hawkins, with help from Amber Williams.
This collaborative project gives writers and performers a fantastic opportunity to network and workshop, and to present their work to a small audience of fellow creatives. Each month sees a completely different set of creative works workshopped and presented in a somewhat rough setting, a delight for the creative community and those who enjoy work-in-progress theatre. NST are taking continuous applications from writers and performers, musicians and ensembles, to curate an eclectic selection of works each month. The collaborative collective approach gives a fantastic opportunity to creatives and audiences alike, from networking to unique experiences of fresh writing.
Each month there is a completely new line-up of music, workshopped scripts, and work-in-progress performances, presenting a fresh and surprising grab-bag of art to a small audience. You never know what kind of work you will see, you might even discover the next big hit-show in the making!
The Others is a record shop, events venue, and rehearsal space, a true underground venue with a strong community spirit. There’s a large variety of events happening at this unique venue, located within a short walk from Stoke Newington station. It feels like the perfect space for an innovative endeavour like The Scrap, an intimate venue that fosters connection and expression.
