Lost Property, recently staged at the Camden Fringe and on its way to the Edinburgh Fringe from 11th to 23rd August, is a one-woman show following Alice during a ride on the tram to an important appointment. Along her journey, Alice thinks about what brought her here, the collapse of her career, her friendships, her love life. She has lost her libido and doesn’t know why, but as she recounts everything that happened in the past few years, things come into focus for Alice and the audience.
Lost Property is a very charmingly presented inner monologue of a young woman pondering modern womanhood in our complicated world. With absurd side-bars and side-splitting humour, it’s a biting comedy with a deeper soul to be discovered. A self-searching journey on a busy public transport vehicle, interrupted by other passengers, sudden revelations, and the urge to hide from familiar faces.
This show tackles some heavier topics, including assault and harassment , but keeps the tone light, almost jovial, for most of its runtime. Amelia Dunn is an incredibly charismatic performer, her extremely expressive portrayal of Alice is hilarious and deeply touching at once. The impressive mix of absurd comedy and poignant monologue is an impressive feat rarely seen executed this well.
With just a few props and a lot of heart, Lost Property is a brilliant show that tackles difficult topics with delightful levity without trivialising their seriousness.
