Overshare, currently running at the Greenwich Theatre until the 25th May is part theatre, part installation artwork, part live mental breakdown. It’s an incredibly dynamic show that’s unlike any other currently staged in London.
In a small bedroom littered with memorabilia and mementos, clothes strewn about the place, photos scattered around and stuck to the walls, Eleanor Hill idly scrolls on her phone, which live-streams to a big screen on the wall, and to social media of course. Based on her own experience of oversharing and having a breakdown on Instagram, she has developed Overshare, a narrative told entirely through a young woman talking to an invisible audience inside her phone.
It’s a captivating storytelling tool, we see both sides, her streamed video on the screen that includes messages coming in throughout the show, as well as her creating the video on her own, isolated in her small room, frantically setting the scene with a plethora of tripods and lighting sources. A whirlwind of action confined to a phone screen. From casually chatting to her audience to a full blown screaming rant that discloses way too much personal information, this show really runs the breadth of human expression. From hookups to breakups, remembering dead relatives and considering joining them, plotting revenge to begging for forgiveness, this show is as deeply human as it is completely unhinged. A journey through an emotionally unstable mind with ups and downs and surprising sidebars, Overshare is a brilliant new piece of theatre made for a modern audience that is starting to consider the wider effects of social media on the mind. It’s messy, it’s real, it’s definitely oversharing, it’s an absolute experience to watch!
