Dracula – A Comedy Of Terrors – is currently running at the Menier Chocolate Factory until 3 May. This comedically camp reimagining of Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a feast of hilarity. Playing with gender norms and sexuality, it’s a modern romp that turns the vampire myth on its head.
A ripped Gen Z Count Dracula is bored with life in Transylvania, struggling to find people worth spending time with and yearning for a companion who is just has interesting and hot as he himself is. With campy costumes and the best facial expressions this side of the West End, James Daly is a brilliant modern Count, prancing across the stage and flirting his way through the plot.
The five strong cast rotates through a variety of roles with impressive speed and conviction, incorporating the speedy costume changes into the show for extra laughs. The story stays somewhat close to the original novel, with extra drama of course. The high energy show is on par with Mischief Theatre antics, really playing up the ridiculous comedy to the max.
So if you like dramatic vampires and a good laugh, see if you can score come tickets for this fantastically funny show!
