Murder She Didn’t Write is currently touring the UK, returning to the West End in May for another performance. A classic murder mystery that is completely improvised with prompts from the audience.
Agatha Chrusty leads through the mayhem of a murder story, getting help from Jerkins, her assistant nominated from the audience. With just a few prompts, the troupe creates a fully formed story of intrigue, betrayal, and murder.
For the performance at the Duchess Theatre, the requested setting was a school trip, with the murder weapon being a continuously growing cucumber. Despite these very side-bar suggestions, the company managed to create a cohesive story with interesting characters and interwoven storylines. Quick-thinking and well structured, this cluedo-esque escapade is the height of improvised entertainment. The actors are all incredibly well trained at top-notch improv, as well as working together fantastically well to bring laugh-out-loud moments to a dramatic murder mystery story.
If you’re unsure about improv theatre itself, definitely give this one a go, it’s top notch entertainment and some of the best improv I’ve seen. A brilliant idea, brilliantly executed.
