The third instalment of the Murder Trial Tonight series is currently touring the UK, this time it is centred around The Doorstep Murder. The story is based on a true crime, but has been changed for dramatic purposes.
As usual with these shows, they try to highlight how difficult and ambiguous the justice system can be when juries are involved, and how miscarriages of justice aren’t uncommon, by presenting the story and court case in a condensed, dramatised manner, and then letting the audience decide whether they deem the accused guilty or not guilty.
Showing the developing case in a courtroom setting and with occasional videos, the legal back and forth is quite interesting to watch, though the level of dramatisation was definitely kicked up a little for this instalment.
Still, in contrast to last year’s show having 63% of the audience make the wrong choice, this time around a whopping 74% of attendees chose the correct verdict, which we were informed was discovered years after the actual case happened.
Murder Trial Tonight is a little on the sensationalistic side, but tries to stay quite balanced and well informed at the same time. Overall another good show!
