The new production of The Producers at the Menier Chocolate Factory, running until 1st March 2025, completely sold out before official opening night, though there may still be a chance of scoring returns occasionally. But does it live up to the hype?
Yes, yes it absolutely does! The small stage of the Menier is expertly utilized, with clever set pieces, dazzling costumery, and creative use of the space. The cast works very hard to bring the characters to life with vibrant enthusiasm, making this staging a delight to watch. From the smallest background role to the main characters, everyone pulls their weight and then some, leading to an absolute stand out performance from the entire cast, who all look like they are having the time of their life performing in the show. This enthusiasm definitely translates to the audience, who exuberantly laughed along with the silly dramatics throughout.
From dazzling costumes to tap dancing pigeons, this show really has it all! And it doesn’t shy away from even the most offensive content in this classic comedy hit show. An utter delight, this laugh-a-minute production is sure to get an extension or West End transfer, so don’t fret if you didn’t manage to get tickets this time around. With success like this, there will definitely be more chances to catch a performance of this tremendous production!
My only point of critique is that I really wish the theatre would sell fresh pretzels during the interval to fit with the overall theme, other than that it is simply perfection!
