Part of the Voila Festival, Impact is running at the Barons Court Theatre this weekend. Written and performed by Amy Engelhardt, this highly emotional show is a personal story about the 1988 Lockerbie air disaster and its wide reaching effects.
Amy was herself a Syracuse student, and personally knew several of the students on the ill fated plane. Having experienced a series of “thin moments”, those moments in time that seem to give meaning and connect things in ways that almost seem supernatural, she goes on a pilgrimage to Lockerbie thirty years after the disaster. In Impact, she recounts those moments, which could seem like coincidences, but give meaning and clarity, connecting people and events in unexpected ways.
Underlined with heartbreakingly beautiful songs, this memoire of a deeply touching journey, turning strangers into friends, giving comfort in the face of intense grief and trauma. Amy leads with humour and charisma, delving into her own connection to those young people whose lives were cut short, and the myriad of lives that were touched and forever changed by the events.
Raw, reflective, full of hope and passion, Impact is a personal history as much as it is a beautiful exploration of the kindness of strangers and how disaster can bring us closer together, give us love and light when we most need it.
