Blumhouse BLACKOUT

SOHO

Blumhouse Blackout, a recent free pop-up experience by Universal Pictures, focuses on the iconic Blumhouse horror characters and stories like MEGAN, Black Phone, The Purge, and the Halloween franchise. In this binaural adventure, audiences are placed right in the terrifying action.
In the heart of SOHO, a small venue is transformed to house this scare experience for a few days. Audiences are welcomed into a small sitting room where actors in Purge mask get-up creep around to set the mood. Small groups of up to 8 people are then led to a short briefing before descending a dark set of stairs into the cellar. In the dingy room, grungy and stained mattresses are laid out for patrons to lay on, while given a headset before being plunged in complete darkness.
The audio experience is quite tense, laying in the dark while a horror story unfolds in visitor’s ears, incorporating elements from many well known Blumhouse horror movies. The dark audio experience lasts 15 minutes, with chilling audio placing visitors right inside their favourite creepy stories. Once escaped from the basement, a bar awaits with refreshments, and MEGAN for entertainment, as guests await the beginning of the Purge.
Very well designed and presented, it was an exciting little pop-up experience for any horror fan. Not quite as scary as I had hoped, it was very entertaining and a good bit of fun!
