Camden Fringe is in full swing, and while some of the locations are a little far apart, making it harder to see several shows in one day, I’ve been show hopping quite a bit whenever I could make it work. One of the shows I’ve recently seen is The Waiting Room by Moon Kim.
When her relationship with the love of her life breaks down, Lemon finds herself stuck in the waiting room, confused and desperate to get out. Running through the stages of grief, she dismantles her own psyche, prodding at the most vulnerable parts, to review her own life and approach towards relationships in general, and this one specifically.
From anxiety and anguish to delighted delirium, Lemon’s emotional world runs the gamut in this eccentric, expressive play that might seem high concept at first, but reveals itself to be a grounded journey of self-discovery, freed from preconceptions or societal expectations. The Waiting Room feels like delving into someone else’s mind mid-breakdown and watching them slowly tear themselves apart before putting everything back together stronger than before.
A beautiful exploration of emotional dependence, insecure attachments, fears of loss and meaning; an exquisite deep-dive into a psyche in crisis clawing its way back into the light.
