The Police Cops are back! Having previously seen, and massively enjoyed, Police Cops, Police Cops In Space, and Badass Be Thy Name, I knew I had to see the brand new Police Cops The Musical production. This troupe just never ceases to amaze me with their effortlessly hilarious shows.
If you’ve seen any of their previous shows, you know exactly what you’re in for with the musical. This time we are transported back to the 80s, rookie Police Cop Jimmy Johnson has to navigate being partnered with a renegade cop with a dark past, and deal with a racist chief of police, while trying to find the big bad Hernandez. Welcome to the U.S.Eighties!
The show is loud and bright and completely unhinged. With catchy tunes, plenty of ridiculously long-form jokes, a huge dose of silliness, and some surprisingly deep deep political points to be made, it’s a full-on show that doesn’t give you a second to catch your breath.
Physical comedy mixed with slap-stick humour and a dizzying array of props and puppets that by all rights shouldn’t, but really do work. The upbeat soundtrack and impressive vocals do the rest to have the entire audience in stitches. Truly a standing ovation performance, Police Cops The Musical was exactly what I hoped it would be, a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud, ridiculously hilarious production you just cannot miss. Are you an American’t, or an AmeriCAN?
