If you’ve seen The Play That Goes Wrong, you have a good idea of the kind of humour that Windfall plays to. This hilarious new play is just that, but in an office setting.

Five disgruntled office workers suffer from an absolutely maniacal boss who enjoys tormenting them with explosive rages and manipulative office politics. But when they band together to try to win a five hundred million jackpot in the lottery, their hope of an escape from drab office life soon turns into absolute mayhem when the friends turn on each other and their deepest secrets are revealed.

While the first act starts off somewhat slow with the plot, it is never boring. Kicking off with very stereotyped office worker characters trying to hold on to their friendship forged through their mutual hatred of their boss, there are a few laughs right off the bat. But overall the beginning of the play keeps it somewhat tame, focussing more on barbed words.

As soon as the second act kicks off, things get intense. Having spent their last savings on heaps of lottery tickets, the group quickly turns on each other in a mix of physical attacks on each other, utilizing a plethora of stationary items around the office, and a tirade of revealing each other’s secrets with hilarious consequences.

A high-paced romp through a nondescript office, Windfall is a fantastic new comedy play that will surely see a lot more runs in its future!
