Another kid’s show I attended for work, Father Christmas Needs A Wee is based on the book of the same name. It’s a simple counting book for children, themed around Christmas, in which Father Christmas gobbles up all the drinks offered at each house, and ends up desperate for a loo break, distracting him from delivering the presents.

The show consists of two energetic actors whirling across the stage to recount Father Christmas’ adventure that Christmas night. A responsible elf trying to convince Father Christmas not to drink so much, a child sneaking a look at him and insisting he drink the treats prepared for him, and even a dog excitedly protecting its home.

High energy and very entertaining, the children in the audience were very absorbed by the action on stage. There was even some fun audience participation thrown in for good measure.

Throughout the staging it did feel a little repetitive, and I did find the show to be a bit on the long side for younger children, it even had an interval, and could have easily been shortened to a run-through show. Still, it was cute and the children definitely enjoyed it.
