I recently had the chance to see an ArtsEd production of Jasper In Deadland, and I can tell you, it was very impressive!
I’ve seen many graduation productions and course-end works before, but this one was stunning, filled to the brim with very impressive voice talent who will surely move on to feature in the West End in the very close future. Honestly, I cannot tell you how brilliant these young people were!
Jasper In Deadland is a modern re-imagining of the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, seeing young Jasper following his friend Agnes into the realm of the dead to save her. Along the way he encounters many obstacles and has to outwit a host of characters, including Cerberus, Beatrix, Loki and Hel, and the mysterious Mr. Lethe who is of course up to no good.
While the set and costumes are very basic, this troupe of young talent inhabits the space with confidence and style, fully submersing the audience in the world of the afterlife, travelling to the different sections and fighting for love and life.
What a brilliant musical, and so well staged, I was very impressed with this one!
