Now this one I was very excited to see! Based on the classic book, To Kill A Mocking Bird is headed for the West End! I personally don’t care too much whether big names are involved with a production, but this one had the additional draw of boasting Rafe Spall as Atticus Finch.
This production is very true to the book, placing Scout as the main narrator of the story, starting at the end and going back to the beginning.
The most impressive part to me was the amazing rising and lowering stage, which smoothly slid out parts of the set to become completely different locations. Absolutely beautifully realised and stunningly designed, the set alone is worth a visit!
If you’ve read the book, you know this isn’t an easy story to watch. But it is exceedingly well done, hitting all the important corner stones of the story while keeping a balance of the perspective of the children who tell it.
Characters are wonderfully realised and lead through the varying scenes with so much passion and power. I was an absolute pleasure to watch this show, hard hitting as it may be. If you were touched by the book at all, I definitely recommend a trip to the theatre to catch this production.
