I haven’t played a Deckscape game in a while, so sat down to give Eldorado a whirl. I generally find Deckscape games to be a bit too much on the easy side for me, but they’re still fun to play. This one has a few new twists in it that play a little different from previous games, but more on that later.
Deckscape is a small game played on a set of cards that drive a narrative and make you solve puzzles and riddles to get through the adventure. This particular one starts with a plane crash and the players being tasked with navigating to safety after the crash, and finding the legendary Eldorado, city of gold, while they’re in the area. No big deal, clearly we’re cut out to do this, and some locals might help us along the way.
Along with penalties for giving wrong answers (there’s a hint system, but once you check your answer, you’re either right or wrong, no second chance) this time there are also curses and poisonings to contend with. I found most of the puzzles to be rather straight-forward and would have liked a bit more of a challenge. But it’s pretty much what I expect from Deckscape games by now.
There was a lot to do and a good variety of fun little challenges, so for the price it’s definitely a good one. Took me a good hour to play through it, and I actually enjoyed the somewhat silly story it told.
