I booked a seat for the opening night of Whodunnit Unrehearsed at the Park Theatre, not knowing quite what to expect, but I’m always up for a murder mystery, especially if it’s part of a charity fundraiser.

Whodunnit Unrehearsed is set in the 1930s and is a good old-fashioned murder mystery with a twist! Each night, a different surprise celebrity guest takes the stage as the detective, without ever having seen the script. The guest gets fed lines through an ear piece, other than that they are absolutely on their own to find their feet and figure out what is going on around them.

The surprise guest for the first performance of the short run was no other than Jonathan Pryce! Taking on the role of the clever detective, he made his way through a host of ridiculous scenes that included quite a large element of audience interaction.

The script is absolutely hilarious, with brilliant timing and so many fun elements, including a star-studded voice-over cast that include Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, Ian McKellen. There’s clues strewn throughout, and Pryce took every twist and turn with humour and wit, despite being put into a variety of hilariously confusing situations.

I haven’t laughed this much in a while, and would go back night after night if I could! Most performances are now sold out, but there is a limited amount of same-day standing tickets released at 10am every day. If you’re quick, you might be lucky enough to catch another performance of this amazing show!
