Another show that kept getting delayed was Frozen, which finally opened in the West End! I had tickets for one of the preview performances and was so excited to see what they’d do with the material. The Theatre Royal Drury Lane has also been fully refurbished in recent years and it is absolutely stunningly gorgeous, with a grandeur that few theatres in London can match.
Unfortunately the audiences of shows like this are of course often jam packed with young children and theatre-inexperienced adults, so I was prepared for a more rowdy audience than what I’m used to, but it turned out to be even worse than I expected. Adults talking at full volume, encouraging children to sing along, crinkly popcorn bags, children standing rather than sitting and blocking everyone’s view… it was a lot!
Still, I tried to ignore this as best I could, to enjoy a show that I’ve been looking forward to for so long. The cast really did bring so much energy and love to the stage, it was wonderful. The changes and additions to the show felt very suitable and lovingly curated, especially a fun song about Hygge and small comments referencing Frozen 2 really gave depth and loads of quirky spirit to the show!
What a fantastic start to the long awaited West End run of Frozen! I’ll definitely be back to see it again, I loved it so much.
