On Friday I got to watch the world premier of a new musical, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. This brand new production is set in Midgard, a small town that harvests the northern lights in the name of progress. The town’s magician, who uses the magical powers of the northern lights to help and heal people, is ignored when he warns of dire consequences, but together with his daughter he fights to save the town from certain destruction.

While none of the songs are particularly memorable, the cast is very strong with some impressive voices who elevate the soundtrack. With beautiful costumes and well designed backdrops and props, it’s a really good new musical that has a lot of potential to grow and become a staple.

It is still streaming through the Southwark Playhouse until the 14th of March, so go secure yourself a spot and watch it while you can. I really enjoyed this show.
