The second escape game in a box I ever tried was Kosmos Exit game The Pharaoh’s Tomb. This was also the first time I attempted one of these games on my own. As with all Kosmos Exit games, this one comes with a decoder disk, a stack of riddle cards, a stack of answer cards, several 3-card stacks of help cards (each help card stack has a hint1, hint2, and solution card to use whenever you need a little nudge) and a few “strange items”. The story line starts with your team being separated from your tour guide in the Valley Of Kings in modern day Egypt. You find yourself trapped in a burial chamber within a pyramid and have to find your way out with the help of an old notebook and your own observational skills. While it’s a bit of a clichéd setup, the game is wonderfully structured and filled to the brim with riddles and challenges. I moved through everything quite quickly and found the progression of riddles and tasks to be logical and linear. There was never any doubt as to how a riddle needed to be solved. A beautiful and fun game, I’d rate The Pharaoh’s Tomb 4.5 of 5 stars.
