I recently managed to get a hold of a copy of Escapement‘s The Charm of Christmas Past. I heard a lot about how beautiful it was and about the incredible production value, so I had to check it out. And all those comments were absolutely accurate!

The game arrives in a fabric bag and looks very Christmassy, it’s a very charming and suitable presentation. The riddles come with the most beautiful props and even smell amazing, like a campfire.

A gorgeous story is spun through each and every riddle and puzzle, uncovering a grand old family celebration from over a century past. There are several chapters that can be played individually in order, so you have good points to take breaks or even put the game away for a few days. It does take quite a few hours to play the whole things through, so definitely use those breaks between chapters!

Each chapter is contained in a brown envelope with a plethora of props and puzzles, there’s so much variety in this game, it definitely didn’t get boring. The props and pages have a very high quality as well, no flimsy paper and cardboard here!

This game is an absolute delight and played so well, I can’t recommend it enough! If you get a chance to snap it up, new or preloved, jump at it!
