Being in lockdown due to the corona virus pandemic, I thought I’d use the time to work on my backlog of shows I never got around to review back when I actually saw them. I just don’t always have the time to write reviews right away and sometimes they just fall into an eternal backlog that I am now striving to work through! I actually viewed this production on 24 November 2018 and am writing the review with my theatre notes written during and after the performance.
Of course, Doctor Dolittle is a very known story, but I have not seen it produced on stage yet, so I grabbed some friends and headed down to the Churchill Theatre to witness the spectacle of a musical production of this show.
And what a show it was! Obviously mostly aimed at children, this musical is insanely bright and colourful, swirling across the stage with a myriad of funny characters and beautiful animal puppets. A very engaging show for children and adults alike, packed with brilliant talent and somewhat forgettable but momentarily entertaining songs.
We left the theatre with big smiles, like most of the audience. Definitely a fantastic children’s show to take the family to.
