Last week I took the children I nanny (2.5yrs and 4yrs) to see Zog Live at the Cadogan Hall. They love the book, so we just had to go see it in the theatre. The story is so charming and cute with a powerful princess at the helm, it’s one of our favourites.

The stage is kept relatively simple with a wooden structure in the middle, a few cut-out plants, a blue sky in the background, and of course the highly coveted golden stars! A plethora of musical instruments are presented on both sides of the stage, it all looks very whimsical and cute.

Geared at younger children, the show runs about an hour and features plenty of music and singing. With a combination of puppets and costumes, the dragons come to life to learn their lessons on how to become proper dragons. It’s presented a little different from the book and doesn’t exactly follow the story, but the gist of it is still there and recognizable. At first it felt a little bit rushed, but there is more detail towards the end of the story, so it all balances out well.

The show is high energy, with many laugh out loud moments for the children and so many funny antics on stage. The kids loved it, especially the pink dragon, Harry, was their absolute favourite. With the fun and bright costumes I’m not sure the dragon puppets were actually needed, though they were definitely super cute. We also liked the little bunny puppets that took over narration at times.

A whimsical, fun show with a powerful message, I’d definitely recommend this for younger children. It’s a really well done stage adaptation of the book, the children loved it and I really enjoyed it as well.
