AIM Escape – Hangover Déjà Brew

4.0 out of 5.0 stars

Last week I was invited by Love Popups London to test out AIM Escape‘s Hangover room. Having already played two of their other rooms, I was very keen on trying this one out. They tend to have great electronic equipment and fun, unusual challenges, so I was hoping this one was no different. The blurb on their website describes the hangover room as follows:

An 18-plus experience for pleasure seeking adults. The morning after the turbo-charged stag night before. A hotel room filled with dishevelled bodies and empty bottles. Things got a little out of hand didn’t they – or can’t you recall? Seems not. One person is missing – the groom. The wedding is only hours away and you’re locked in the suite.

Sounds like a different, wild room concept, so here we go!

The room is really well designed with lots of space for a large team of 5 to roam, and spiffy looking design elements. The first few items are quickly found, challenges and games are all straight forward and easy to understand, if sometimes quite demanding and fiddly. Everyone quickly found things to do, spreading out to find all the puzzles that needed solving, teaming up to work out the more challenging bits.

We had a lot of fun on the way, quickly progressing through the game. The hint system in this room works through a smart phone, our GM definitely gave us hints and advice exactly when we needed it, which means the team working at AIM are really on top of things and very attentive while observing the players in the room.

We ended up finishing the Hangover room in just over 49 minutes, thoroughly enjoying the journey. There were a few technical issues with some of the more creative games, but nothing major, so it wasn’t a problem. The only little complaint I’d have is that the background noises in this room, while thematically right on track, are a bit loud at times, which made it difficult to understand some of the videos that are part of the room. This makes it a bit more difficult than it’d need to be, but might actually be designed to be that way.

I certainly thought the puzzles and challenges were fresh and different, with a high level of technical innovation, and am rating this fun room four stars! Definitely recommend trying it, especially as part of a hen party of stag do (BEFORE going out to party, don’t show up to an escape room drunk, that’s never a good idea and you might even be refused entry) to get the night started. Super fun!
