When Midnight Strikes

4.0 out of 5.0 stars

After having really enjoyer Birds Of Paradise, I was looking forward to seeing MKEC Productions‘ newest release, When Midnight Strikes, at the cute little Drayton Arms Theatre.

The story takes place on New Year’s Eve 1999 at a small house party, where expectations meet with disappointment and intrigue.

The small set was beautifully built, complete with a small balcony visible through a large window, a small kitchen and large entertaining space. Lovingly created details made it feel like a mid-range New York apartment ready for a small house party.

The host couple was clearly on the rocks and trying to make nice for their guests, who brought a plethora of problems of their own. A whirlwind of squabbles, awkward flirting and misunderstandings ensued, set to a fun soundtrack that really showcased the strengths of the cast.

While the story was a little of the sappy side and very predictable, I did enjoy this small production a lot, and you can definitely tell that large amounts of effort and love go into the making of this musical! I’m rating this one four stars and look forward to the next production from this company.
