I had the chance to accompany friends to this live reading of the HG Wells classic The Time Machine. Read by Christopher Eccleston, Emma Hamilton and Nikki Amuka-Bird and accompanied on the gorgeous Royal Festival Hall organ by  James McVinnie. Obviously I couldn’t say no to this!
The setting is obviously dominated by the large organ covering almost the entire back wall. Other than a few lighting effects throughout the show, this reading focused entirely on the text.

All three actors performed really well, apart from a little stumble here and there it was a great reading with no overly distracting speech or movement. I really enjoyed how the three split the text between them, fluidly switching from one to the other.

The musical accompaniment was fantastic as well, lending a air of gravity to the entire performance and adding  emotional depth where needed.

Overall I enjoyed every minute and the occasional stumble didn’t distract too much.
