Whisk Dessert Bar


On Tuesday, I was invited to try the current tasting meny at Whisk Dessert Bar in Angel, courtesy of the Love Popups London blogger and reviewer community. Note that while I was given this meal free of charge, this does not influence my review of the experience. This is not a paid ad.

We started our meal off with a wonderful Jing tea. The tasting meny (£15) can be ordered or its own, or paired with tea (£17.50), wine (£21) or champagne (£25), there are many different teas available that can be ordered either paired to correspond with the chosen dessert, or on its own.

The Amuse to start us off was a rhubarb and custard cream dish, tangy and sweet with a little crunch to it, this was one of my favourite dishes of the whole menu. I love slightly sour and not too sweet desserts, and this one was a perfect fit for my taste!

I chose the English cherries, almond cake, cherry sorbet, mascarpone, stracciatella, new season almonds dessert, which came with different kinds of cherries and an intense, delicious cherry sorbet. The small almond cake layer tasted like a dense marzipan morsel that worked perfectly paired with the sweet cherries and tangy mascarpone. A fantastic summer dessert!

Joanne chose the white peach, poached peach, fresh nectarine, thyme granita dish, which was also very fresh and light, with a lovely fresh peach taste to it. A good portion, not too big, not too small.

We also got to try the intriguing watermelon sorbet, feta cheese, fresh watermelon, pomegranate seeds, mint, super thin flat bread cracker dish. Both Joanne and I love feta, so were eager to try this unusual combination. The crisp, cool watermelon worked perfectly drizzled with olive oil and combined with the soft, chewy feta cheese. Perfected with watermelon sorbet and crunchy flat bread crackers, it’s a different spin on a lovely summer dessert. Very refreshing and a great taste combination.

On top of all the wonderful desserts, we were invited to try some of the off-menu creations owner Randon likes to make with his ice cream machine. We were treated to a lavender, honey, and ricotta ice cream, that was a little too soapy for me, but Joanne loved it. The chestnut ice cream was more to my taste, rich and creamy with a wonderful nutty taste to it.

To finish it all off, the tasting menu finds its conclusion with a set of petit fours, in this case it was a milk chocolate truffle, a hazelnut and raspberry financier, and apricot fudge. The truffle was a little too soft and sweet for me, but the financier was absolutely delicious, with a strong hazelnut taste and a tangy raspberry note, soft and chewy all in one. My favourite was the apricot fudge, probably because I am quite partial to fudge to begin with, and this one was different with apricot pieces and a lovely mild taste to it.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience with so many delicious desserts to try, I can’t recommend Whisk enough! It’s tucked away upstairs in the Angel Shopping Centre a short walk from the station and serves its delectable treats until 3rd August. So catch it while this pop-up is still running!
